4-5 weeks elective placement proposed itinerary
From £1200 per person for a group of two (if more than 8 people contact us for special rates). Cost is based on per person sharing a double room.
Our contacts in Uganda medical community allows us to be able to arrange suitable places where you can do your elective medical placements. The hospitals you will be placed, the lead doctor there has had many student medics and therefore he knows exactly what you want. On top of that, this placement will give you a better insight and an understanding of the how health works in Uganda.
Day 1 - Arrival
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by a SandfieldTravel team member, transfer to your accommodation in Kampala. Afternoon go to town to change money and then to your accommodation for the evening
Day 2 - 10 - Iganga Hospital
You will be given orientation on your first day and introduced to the doctors and hospital manager as well as to nurses. You will be based here. The hospital Manager( Head of doctors) has handled many students on their elective placements so rest assured and ask as many questions as you can to make sure that you learn.
Day 11 - Drive back to Kampala
On this day, you will drive back via the source of the Nile in Jinja there will be an opportunity for a stopover and enjoy the source of the mighty river Nile.
Day 11 - 17 - Hospital in Kampala
Day 17 (Sunday) - Church, Swim, Ndere
If you would like to go for prayers this morning you will be taken to Watoto Church where you will be joined in prayers by about 2000 people. Get to the guest house for lunch and you relax till 4:45 when you will be picked up and taken to Ndere culture dance show for the evening where there are loads of traditional singing and dancing covering all the cultures of Uganda. You will have Dinner there as well. Note: Church is optional you can decide to use your morning to catch up with your emails and updates to your friends back home.
Day 18 - Drive to Murchison Falls National Park
You will head for Murchison falls National Park in the North Western part of Uganda. On your way, you will get to see people doing their day to day activities that help them earn a living. With lunch enroute, you will arrive in the early afternoon and then have a short tester game drive. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 19 - Game Drive and Boat Launch at MFNP
We do an early morning game drive, a good time to see the predators. Other animals to see in this park are warthog Hyena, giraffe, elephant, Uganda Kob and many more. This game drive will last a minimum of 4hours; you can choose whether to have your breakfast packed before you leave for the game drive or to have it when you come back from the game drive.
Be back to accommodation in time to freshen up and have lunch. You will then go for the boat launch at exactly 2:00pm that starts at Paraa and ends at the foot of Murchison falls lasting 3hours. This boat trip will enable you to see Hippos, crocodiles and a lot of bird life. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation
Day 20 - Back to Kampala
After breakfast you will drive to the top of the magnificent Murchison falls, stop lunch in Masindi and then head back to Kampala
Day 21 - Kampala city tour and shopping
Our experienced guide will take you through the sights and sounds of this hilly city. Meet people renowned for their friendliness and visit cultural sites. The tour can include the Uganda Museum, Kasubi Tombs, and Makerere University, Nakasero Market, Craft markets, Namirembe Cathedral, Rubaga Cathedral, Kibuli Mosque, Kabaka's lake and more. Enjoy a traditional Uganda style lunch at a local favourite restaurant. You will also get the opportunity to buy souvenirs/gifts. You will have a final evening meal in a favourite restaurant
Day 22 - Departure
Depending on the time of your flights you will be driven to airport 3-4 hours prior to your flight schedule to make sure that you don’t miss your flight.
Includes: Accommodation, Guide/Driver, 3 meals a day, entry fees, Bottled water, airport transfers and transport in 4WD.
