The Masai Mara National Park was created in 1948, just over 60 years ago. It got the name Mara, which means spotted in Maa, the Masai language. The whole park is unfenced, which allows for the animals to be free and able to roam wherever they want.

Today the Masai Mata National Park is home to all of the big five and many other species.
