See—the Sky has lent her jewel

To the Mountain for an hour

Has forgotten to be cruel

In a kind caprice of power – Extract From Rainbow on the Mountain by Ruby Archer.

Uganda is home to several Mountain ranges Like the Elgon and the Rwenzori also known as Mountains of Moon. They are known as such because the peak, Margheritah Africa’s third highest peak is throughout the year covered with snow although the Mountain is so near the Equator.

Rwenzori mountain is a hub for mountain climbers from all-over the world.

A nine- to twelve-day trek will get skilled climbers to the highest peak.

During the climb, you can see the beauty of this part of the world.

The lower slopes are blanketed in moorland, bamboo and rich, moist montane forest. Huge tree-heathers and colourful mosses are draped across the mountainside with giant lobelias and cold water streams flowing downwards.

At the foot of the mountain is the Rwenzori national park which offers protection to over 700 mammal species and 200 bird species.

Malaysia’s renowned 50-year-old mountain climber Ravichandran Tharumalingam who recently added Mount Rwenzori’s Magherita summit to the long list of towering peaks he has conquered said in an interview with The Observer Newspaper that the Rwenzori was one of his biggest challenge because with it “You have to use all technical equipment and skills to reach the summit.”
