Rwenzori Adventure, Gorilla, Chimps and Wildlife safari

Overview

This adventure safari offers you the opportunity to climb Rwenzori Mountains and visit Uganda’s incredibly beautiful National Parks , including ,Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi National Park for Gorilla Tracking, Ishasha Wilderness for tree climbing lions and other wild life, Lake Mburo

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT ENTEBBE

Upon arrival at Entebbe international Airport, you will be met by Sandfieldtravel Guide/Driver and team member and transferred to your hotel for Safari briefing. Overnight in Entebbe if your flight was at night.

DAY 2: ENTEBBE- KIBALE

Today you will set off to Kibale forest for preparation of your chimp tracking.

DAY 3: CHIMP TRACKING

Today, you will set off for your chimp tracking experience. Come back for lunch and set off to kasese.

DAY 4: KASESE -NYAKALENGIJA-1615M-NYABITABA HUT (2651M)

After breakfast we shall report to Rwenzori Mountaineering Services office at Nyakalengija, meet guides and porters, rent equipment and get final briefing, this is where the central circuit begins. The trail passes through farmland crossing River Mubuku and River Mahoma.Your destination today is Nyabitaba Hut (2651m).

DAY 5: NYABITABA (2651M)-MUBUKU RIVER (2600M)

John Matte Hut (3505m). This track is long and challenging and involves climbing and walking in muddy, slippery terrain up to bamboo forest. You will pass through high altitude vegetation like Giant Lobelia and Groundsel and unusual plants and vegetation. You stay at John Matte Hut (3505m).

DAY 6: JOHN MATTE (3505M) BUJUKU (3962M)

You will cross Bujuku River ,lower Bigo Bog, upper Bigo Bog.if the weather is clear ,you will see superb views of Mt.Stanley,continue past cooking pot cave; a very muddy area up to Bujuku Hut(3962m)

DAY 7: BUJUKU (3962M)-SCOTT ELLIOT PASS (4372M) KITANDARA(4023M)

From Bajuku continue to Elena Hut(4430) for the ascent of Magherita Peak on Mt.Stanely(5109m).this climb needs an ice axe, mountain boots, crampons and ropes. Overnight: at a hut beside Lake Kitandara.

DAY 8: LAKE KITANDARA (4023M) – FRESH FIELD PASS (4282M)

Guy Yeomen (3505m) You will trek along a flat area through colorful moss and descend to Nyakalengija. Continue to Guy Yeomen close to river Mubuku. You will have good views of Mt.Baker to the North.

DAY 9: GUY YEOMEN (350M) – NYABITABA (2651M)

Guy Yeomen (3505m) You will trek along a flat area through colorful moss and descend to Nyakalengija. Continue to Guy Yeomen close to river Mubuku. You will have good views of Mt.Baker to the North.

DAY 10: NYABITABA (2651M)-NYAKALENGIJA (1615M), KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

The descent from Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija takes 2-3 hours we travel to Kibale for Chimp trekking. distance from the base of Rwenzori Mt. on the floor of the Western Rift valley to Mweya. Overnight:  At lodge here.

DAY 11: KASESE – ISHASHA – TREE-CLIMBING LIONS

After breakfast, you will set off to Ishasha. On the way, you will stop at the equator to take a photo before continuing to ishasha.  The Ishasha area is famous for its tree-climbing lions. To escape from the heat during the day, the lions here have learned how to climb the fig trees. If you are lucky, you might spot a few during your game drive, so keep your eyes open and look up! Besides these famous lions, there is other interesting wildlife to be seen, like buffalo and the Uganda kob.

After lunch, you will go for an afternoon game drive looking for the famous tree-climbing lions.

In early evening, you will come back to your lodge (Jungle lodge) for dinner and rest for today.

DAY 12: ISHASHA – BUHOMA ( BWINDI)

This morning after the breakfast, you will go for another game drive on the way out of the park. Another chance to look for the tree-climbing lions. You will then continue to your next destination. Buhoma area of Bwindi forest.

DAY 13: BUHOMA – GORILLA TRACKING IN BWINDI

Your long awaited time has arrived. Today you will set out in the morning to go for your gorilla tracking experience. The trek can take between 2-8hrs but the excitement of coming face to face with these amazing animals will take after away all the tiredness.                    

DAY 14: BUHOMA – LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Mburo National park, one of Uganda’s smallest parks, but certainly not to be underestimated.  Mburo is home to Zebra, Eland and Impala, as well as an abundance of other wildlife – not to mention the lake itself, which is teeming with Hippos and Crocodiles! However, you can now see Giraffes there too. You will stay just outside the park boundaries, but it will feel like being in the middle of the park. From your verandah and restaurant, you have a great view over the park and its wildlife.

You will go for an evening bicycle safari after lunch and then an evening game drive before coming back to your lodge for dinner.

DAY 15: LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK – ENTEBBE

Today, you will set off for a very early morning walking safari in Lake Mburo national park. The walk is about 2-3 hours. Coming back to lodge for breakfast and then leave for Entebbe. On the way, you will stop for lunch at the equator.

 

DAY 16: DEPARTURE

Today is your last day, depending on your flight time; we may be able to squeeze a morning activity in and around Entebbe like the Entebbe botanical gardens.

  • Items of personal nature like Laundry,

  • Climbing equipment like Crampoons, Climbing boots ,Rubber boots, climbing ropes, Ice axe ,Harness, Sleeping mats, Sleeping bag ,Walking sticks. Gorilla trekking permits. Tips: Alcoholic drinks, Airport tax, international airfares, White water rafting.

Note: Equipment can be rented in Uganda before you climb. We will help you with that if needed.
